Talk about a charmed life: I am a founding partner at the best school in Denver! The students, families, staff and community at Denver Green School are absolutely incredible. How did I get to be a math teacher in such an ideal environment?..
After bouncing around the country as a boy (Illinois, Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio), I settled into the Denver area when I was 10 years old. I wanted to be a schoolteacher from an early age, and I studied at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) with that goal in mind. After internships in Kansas City, I took a detour all the way to Strasbourg, France, where I spent nearly three years teaching English. It was there that I learned French and Spanish and really broadened my understanding of other cultures and histories. When that chapter came to a close, I returned to Denver, and I've been teaching in DPS ever since.
DGS is a school that does so much more than teaching the basics. We created this school because we wanted to show that a great school could prepare students for a bright future and empower them to create it. I'm so gratified to be a part of DGS!
My main teaching responsibility is 6th grade math, and I'm super-excited to be working with Ms Mundt on the 6th grade team. It's going to be a fantastic school year!
Outside of school, you'll find me cooking and enjoying a great meal at home (I love to cook!), working in the garden, or out riding my bike. And I go back to France just as often as I can...

I may have taken a roundabout way to get here, but I couldn't be more grateful. After growing up in the beautiful Northwest, I started my teaching career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana teaching with Teach for America. After my 2 years jn Baton Rouge, I moved to Denver and taught 6th and 7th grade math. After a few more years of teaching I took a slight detour and traveled, volunteered, and studied Spanish for a year in South and Central America, only to return to Denver to attend law school. One faithful Saturday before I had even graduated law school or taken the bar, I met Sarah Tucker and Kartal Jaquette. After a quick tour and visit with the school, I was sold. And here I am today, 3 years later, a partner, a 6th grade literacy teacher, and coach for new to DGS teachers.
When I'm not brainstorming excursion ideas or analyzing data, I love to spend my time riding my bike around Denver and up in the mountains or doing yoga at my favorite studios and parks. It can be pretty difficult to pull me away from a great book, unless I'm near the last chapter and then I make up excuses not to read, just so I can delay the end of the book.
