Sprout City Farm contributed something like 150 pounds of fresh produce to 6th graders' families to make the delicious food you shared at our Harvest Festival. We are saying "thanks" to Farmer Meg by helping her get the farm ready for winter. Enjoy the photos!
Hello families,
Mr. Potter and I write out the homework assignments and add photo galleries, but we'd love to know what you want to see on this page. Let us know by leaving a comment on this post. Thanks! From Mr. Potter:
As you may know, I missed 3 days this week for family reasons. It was very hard to be away and I worried that Harvest Festival work would fall apart. You may no know that I also missed Thursday and Friday of last week for professional development. That makes FIVE STRAIGHT DAYS out of the class. The last five days to help students prepare for this event. And yet, today's Harvest Festival was in many ways the best one we've ever had. With the same short amount of time (two hours, fifteen minutes), we served over 500 students, staff, and parents. That's a new record! We had fun activities for everyone. And we cleaned up the mess. I am blown away by students' seriousness and hard work. Everyone was willing to do extra and we got cleaned up without leaving anyone a big mess to deal with. All of the last five days' work was done without my help. Truly amazing. I'm also humbled and gratified by the showing that parents made today. We had people stay and work the food lines for over two hours. We were never short of help, and everyone made it fun and stress-free. I just can't say how touching that is for me. Teaching in the DGS community is a real privilege and I don't take it for granted. Thank you all for your smiles, your help, the delicious food, and for being part of it with me. What a great day. Again, sorry about the upside-down photos below. Still trying to figure that one out... If you want to log in to IXL.com for DLI work (Ms Kidd) or math work (Mr Potter), go here:
Yesterday the 6th grade took bikes and busses to visit different markets and stores. We were interested in the price, quality, and sustainability of our produce choices. We learned a lot about these factors, and we're discovering how difficult it can be to make choices we can feel good about. Here are a few photos from the day... |
